NLH Data Sources
Data Sources are the originating source for data a legal hold (for example, a Microsoft Exchange server, Cloud Storage, or a user’s desktop.) Data sources are specific to a particular hold and a particular custodian on that hold.
To add a data source to a hold
- In the Holds and Communication list, select the hold you want to receive a data source.
- In the Hold Details section's Custodians/Recipients and Data Sources header, click the Data Source icon.
- On the New Data Source dialog box's Basic info tab, enter the Name of the data source.
- Use the following to add or remove selected contacts to the Assigned Custodians list:

: Add all to data source.

: Add selected to data source.

: Remove selected from data source.

: Remove all from data source.

Click Next.
- On the Settings tab, select the following for the data source:
- Type
- Size
- Unit
- Start Date
- End Date
- Click Save.
Note: A data source with the selected properties are created for each of the custodians in the Assigned Custodians list.
To change the status of a data source
- In the Holds and Communication list, select the hold with data source you want to status change.
- In the Hold Details section's Custodians/Recipients and Data Sources list, select the custodian with the data source you want to status change.
- Click the down arrow and select the data source you want to status change.
- Click the Action icon
in the Custodians/Recipients and Data Sources header and select Edit.
- Update the Change Status list of toggles as needed.
- Click Save.
- Click X to close the Data Source dialog box.
To edit a data source
- In the Holds and Communication list, select the hold with data source you want to edit.
- In the Hold Details section's Custodians/Recipients and Data Sources list, select the custodian with the data source you want to edit.
- Click the down arrow and select the data source you want to edit.
- Click the Action icon
in the Custodians/Recipients and Data Sources menu bar and select Edit.
- In the Details pane, click Edit.
- Update the following data source settings as needed.
- Name
- Data Source Type
- Original Size
- Original Acquisition Date
- Preservation Start Date
- Preservation End Date.
- Click Save.
- Click X to close the Data Source dialog box.
To delete a data source
- In the Holds and Communication list, select the hold with data source you want to delete.
- In the Hold Details section's Custodians/Recipients and Data Sources list, select the custodian with the data source you want to delete.
- Click the down arrow and select the data source you want to delete.
- Click the Action icon
in the Custodians/Recipients and Data Sources header and select Delete.
- In the Delete Data Source dialog box, click Delete.
